Washing & Colouring

Washing

If you do not have a very dry scalp, you can wash your hair every day. Choose a shampoo that fits your hair type. Switch between two different shampoos reccomended by your stylist every few months to avoid risking build-up on the hair caused by using the same product all the time. If you have dandruff you can choose a special dandruff shampoo, but remember not to use it for too long at one time, since it can turn the hair into steel wool.

Use the special shampoo only when you have an actual dandruff problem, and switch back to your normal shampoo as soon as the scalp has gotten better again. After shampooing, you should use conditioner. Conditioner makes the hair softer, shinier and gives it more volume and vigour. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing to improve the effect. There is also conditioner that should not be rinsed out at all, i.e leave in conditioner which can be good if you have dry hair or normally blow dry your hair. The best thing for your hair when you have washed it is to towel-dry it and then let it dry on its own. Many people suffer from a flaking scalp. This can either be a result of having a dry scalp, not rinsing properly or having dandruff. Dandruff is caused by a yeast-like fungus, pityrosporon ovale, which over 20% of the population is bothered with at some time.

Dandruff shampoo contains a substance, selenium sulphide, which counteracts the yeast fungus’s activity on the scalp. Our best advice for dandruff is therefore to use a dandruff shampoo. You should in addition only use dandruff shampoo for a limited time, during the most acute dandruff period. This type of shampoo can sometimes “roughen up” the hair to an undesired point with long-time use, which is why it is better to return to a regular or balancing shampoo as soon as you have gotten the desired result.

Colouring

If your hair is beginning to become grey, don’t despair. Grey hair is a mixture of grey, white and silver-grey tones that can look very distinguished. Even if most men don’t take grey hair as seriously as going bald, there is help to be found. In colouring the hair, you don’t just cover the grey hairs. You also get significantly more life and shine into the hair. You must also decide what type of hair colouring you would like: semi-permanent which holds for 6-8 shampoos, more permanent that remains for up to 20 shampoos, or permanent hair colouring which keeps two to three months before the new hair growth requires a new treatment. You can even try highlights.

Highlighting involves colouring individual strands of hair a little lighter or darker. It is an effective method to soften up a man’s hairstyle, where the colour can otherwise be rather short and compact. All stylists are trained in the most up to date techniques so if you want something subtle or way out all you have to do is ask.
